Detention and protest restrictions
CJP and protest critics
CJP said it lacked information about the leaders’ whereabouts for about 12 hours, characterised the detentions as unlawful and alleged they were intended to stop the protest. Critics also condemned the use of force.
Police, government and Election Commission
Delhi Police took preventive action and denied permission for the gathering, citing security and law-and-order concerns; authorities deployed personnel and restricted access to prevent a large assembly.
Electoral-roll revision
CJP and protest critics
CJP and other critics alleged irregularities in the revision of voter lists and demanded Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. Opposition voices said deletions disproportionately affected minorities.
