India Invites Bangladesh PM to BRICS Summit
India has invited Bangladesh's Prime Minister, Tarique Rahman, to attend the BRICS Summit in New Delhi this September.
This invitation is part of India's efforts to stabilize ties with Bangladesh and promote the Bay of Bengal Initiative Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).
Bangladesh, which is not a BRICS member, was invited as a special guest in its capacity as the chair of BIMSTEC.
The invitation comes after a period of strained relations, following the ouster of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Both countries are working to improve their relationship, but issues like illegal migration and the renewal of the Ganges Water Treaty remain unresolved.
