Telangana High Court jails officer for violating arrest protection

Telangana High Court jails officer for violating arrest protection

The Telangana High Court had ordered that a man accused in a dowry-death case should not be arrested for a period of time.

The protection was first given on April 21 and extended twice.

The police officer knew about the first protection order.

The man said police pressured a hospital to discharge him so they could arrest him.

He was arrested on April 28.

A magistrate later refused to send him into custody and ordered his release after seeing the High Court’s orders.

The officer said he did not know the protection had been extended and apologized.

The High Court said he should have checked the current order and sentenced him to one month in prison and fined him Rs 2,000.
