Danya Taymor to Direct John Proctor Film

Danya Taymor, who directed the original Broadway play John Proctor Is The Villain, will now direct its movie adaptation for Universal.

The play, written by Kimberly Belflower, received seven Tony nominations and was a big success on Broadway.

It tells the story of five young women in a rural Georgia school dealing with MeToo-era issues while studying Arthur Miller’s The Crucible.

The film will be produced by Tina Fey, Eric Gurian, Marc Platt, Adam Siegel, and Jared LeBoff, with Sadie Sink, who starred in the play, as an executive producer.

Universal has had success with other Broadway adaptations, like Wicked.

Taymor is known for her work on The Outsiders, which won four Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
