Buena Vista Social Club Wins 2026 Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album

Buena Vista Social Club, a Broadway musical inspired by the 1997 album, won the 2026 Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album.

The cast album, produced by Marco Paguia, Dean Sharenow, and David Yazbek, beat out other nominees like Maybe Happy Ending and Death Becomes Her.

The win was a surprise to many, as Maybe Happy Ending was considered a frontrunner.

The musical had previously won five Tony Awards, including one for Natalie Venetia Belcon.

The Grammy win also kept Darren Criss from getting closer to EGOT status and prevented Stephen Sondheim from adding to his Grammy record.

The cast album features music that speaks to a global audience, even those who don't speak Spanish.
