India Launches Anti-Dumping Probes on Chinese, Malaysian Imports
India is investigating whether some imported goods are being sold at unfairly low prices.
The Commerce Ministry's DGTR is looking into solar components and mobile covers from China, and glass from Malaysia and Indonesia.
This is to see if these imports are damaging Indian businesses.
If it's found that the products are being 'dumped' (sold below fair value), India might add extra taxes.
This is called anti-dumping duty.
In the case of glass, a countervailing duty is being considered due to potential subsidies.
The goal is to ensure fair competition and protect local companies.
DGTR initiated an anti-dumping probe on solar components and mobile covers from China.
The investigation follows complaints from RenewSys India and the All India Mobile Cover Manufacturer Association.
The probe will determine the effect of dumping on domestic players.
DGTR also initiated a countervailing duty probe for Clear Float Glass from Malaysia and Indonesia.
These measures aim to create a level playing field and protect domestic industry.
