The position became vacant after Sunny Joseph became a minister.
Nearly twelve people are reportedly asking to get the important job.
Party leaders say the national leadership is taking time before choosing someone.
They want to study the different claims carefully.
One possible choice is Congress MP Kodikunnil Suresh.
He is said to have support from several senior leaders.
