GMDC Reports Profit Decline in First Quarter of FY26
GMDC, a major company that digs up lignite (a type of coal), made less money in the first few months of the year.
Their profits went down by 11%.
This is because they sold less lignite and also made less money from their power operations.
The company is trying to fix this by opening more mines to dig up even more lignite, and they are hoping to start six new mines soon.
Last year, they dug up a lot of lignite, which is used to make electricity and power different types of factories.
GMDC's consolidated profit after tax decreased by 11% year-on-year to ₹164 crore in Q1 FY26.
Revenue from operations fell 10.4% year-on-year to ₹733 crore in the first quarter.
Mining revenue decreased by 11%, and power operations revenue dropped by 32% in Q1 FY26.
GMDC has four operational lignite mines and plans to open six more.
In FY25, GMDC produced 8.1 million tonnes of lignite annually.
