August 2026 Deep Partial Eclipse Will Create Blood Moon

A lunar eclipse happens when Earth moves between the Sun and the Moon.

Earth blocks most of the direct sunlight from reaching the Moon.

During this eclipse, about 96 percent of the Moon will enter Earth’s darkest shadow.

The Moon may look red, orange, or copper-colored.

This happens because Earth’s atmosphere scatters blue light and lets more red light pass through.

The red light bends toward the Moon, much like the colors seen during a sunset.

The eclipse will happen between August 27 and 28, 2026.

People can safely watch it without special glasses if the Moon is visible from their location.
