Supreme Court Orders Maharashtra Local Body Polls by January 2026
The Supreme Court told the Maharashtra State Election Commission (SEC) to finish all local body elections by January 2026.
The court is not allowing any more delays.
This means the SEC can't postpone the elections.
The court also wants the process of dividing up the voting areas to be done by October 2025.
The court criticized the SEC for not following their earlier orders.
The SEC had asked for more time due to reasons like staff shortages and the unavailability of EVMs.

Delimitation exercise must be completed by October 31, 2025.
Further extensions will not be granted.
The elections are for Zilla Parishads, Panchayat Samitis and municipalities.
