Mazzo Onam Sadhya Brings Authentic Kerala Flavours to Hyderabad
Mazzo restaurant in Hyderabad prepared a traditional Kerala feast for Onam.
The feast is called a Sadhya.
Chef Suresh Rajan Pillai made about 27 to 29 vegetarian dishes.
The food was served on banana leaves in a traditional order.
The menu included curries, vegetable dishes, snacks and three types of payasam.
Coconut oil helped give the food its Kerala-style taste.
Most of the dishes were made without onion because of the chef’s family tradition.
Many different people booked the meal, including Muslim guests.
The chef says Onam is about bringing people together, not about one religion.
Marriott Executive Apartments Hyderabad hosted a traditional Onam Sadhya at Mazzo on Saturday, with the feast continuing Sunday.
Head Chef Suresh Rajan Pillai curated the meal using family recipes and traditional banana-leaf service.
The feast included about 27 to 29 dishes, including aviyal, thoran, olan, kalan and Kerala-style sambar.
Three payasams, including palada pradhaman and parippu payasam, were served as desserts.
About 174 people booked the Sadhya, with nearly half identified as Muslim guests, reflecting the chef’s view of Onam as inclusive.
