Displaced Gazans Wait Overseas for Safety and Reconstruction

Displaced Gazans Wait Overseas for Safety and Reconstruction

Omar al-Hassayna left Gaza and went to Cairo after an airstrike destroyed buildings where many members of his family were sheltering.

He lost his wife, several sons, and grandchildren.

He is still living in Egypt and hopes to return to Gaza.

He says he wants to wait until the area is safer and rebuilding can begin.

More than 100,000 people who left Gaza during the war are still overseas, according to Palestinian Authority figures.

The report says about 7,000 people have gone back.

Many people in Gaza are living in temporary shelters and aid supplies are inadequate, according to aid agencies.

Hassayna says he would return if there were a broad agreement and reconstruction began.
