14 Odisha districts lack cold storage facilities
Odisha, a state where most people live in rural areas and farm for a living, has a problem.
Out of 30 districts, 14 do not have working cold storage places to keep fruits and vegetables fresh.
The government says they have 26 cold stores, but 4 of them are not working.
Some of the districts without cold stores are actually big producers of fruits and vegetables.
The government is planning to build new cold stores and fix the broken ones so that farmers can keep their produce fresh and sell it for better prices.
14 out of 30 districts in Odisha lack functional cold storage facilities.
Odisha has 26 cold stores, with 4 currently dysfunctional.
The districts without cold storage include leading producers of perishable commodities.
The government plans to construct new cold storage units in all 58 sub-divisions and restore non-functional ones.
The Agriculture & Farmers Empowerment Department has an outlay of Rs 14,701 crore for the current fiscal year.
