Bengaluru Streetlight Repairs Expose Wider Citywide Darkness and Safety Concerns
A minister found that many streetlights on an important Bengaluru road were broken.
He said officials responsible would face action.
The lights on that particular road were repaired by September 3.
However, other parts of the city still had many broken or missing lights.
An NDTV check found dark areas on Cunningham Road and near Cantonment Railway Station.
The area near a minister's home at Bamboo Bazaar was also reported to be dark.
Residents said dark roads can make people feel unsafe and may contribute to robberies and accidents.
They want officials to fix streetlights across the city, not just on one road.
On August 30, Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said 140 of 222 streetlights between Hudson Circle and Chalukya Circle were not working.
The minister called the failure a breakdown of responsibility and accountability and promised strict action against officials.
By September 3, the lights on that stretch had reportedly been repaired, with disciplinary measures taken against those responsible.
