Trump Warns Canada Over China Trade
Donald Trump, the former US President, has warned Canada that if they make a trade deal with China, the US will put a 100% tax on all Canadian goods.
He said this on his social media platform, Truth Social.
Trump doesn't want Canada to become a place where Chinese goods can easily enter the US.
He thinks China would take over Canada's economy if they make this deal.
Recently, Canada's Prime Minister, Mark Carney, talked about working with other countries like Canada to make important decisions.
After meeting with China's leader, Carney said they agreed to make it easier to trade between their countries.
This includes lowering taxes on some Canadian products and allowing more Chinese electric cars into Canada.
However, Carney clarified that Canada has no intention of pursuing a free trade agreement with China and is bound by its commitments under the Canada-US-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA).
Donald Trump threatened to impose 100% tariffs on Canadian goods if Canada signs a trade deal with China.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated that Canada has no intention of pursuing a free trade agreement with China.
Canada and China recently agreed to reduce tariffs on Canadian canola products and allow visa-free entry for Canadian travelers.
Canada will import 49,000 Chinese electric vehicles at a reduced tariff rate in return.
Canada is bound by its commitments under the Canada-US-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA), which requires advance notification if any member seeks a free trade agreement with a non-market economy such as China.
