GHMC Ward Name Change Dispute
Some people in Secunderabad are upset because a new area in their city has been given a name they don't like.
The new area is called Ward No.
196, and the city officials suggested naming it 'Monda Market'.
But the people who live in East and West Marredpally, Addagutta, and nearby places say that 'Monda Market' is not even in this new area.
They want the name to be changed to 'Marredpally' because that's where most of the people live, and it's a name that everyone knows.
They think the right name will help people feel like they belong and make it easier for the city to provide services.
The city officials haven't said anything about this yet.
The court has asked the city to show the population numbers for each ward so people can understand and object if they want to.
Residents of Secunderabad object to the name 'Monda Market' for Ward No. 196, arguing 'Marredpally' is more accurate and historically significant.
The ward actually covers East and West Marredpally, Addagutta, and adjoining areas, not Monda Market.
A formal objection has been submitted to the GHMC, requesting a name change, but civic officials have not yet responded.
The Telangana High Court directed the GHMC to publish ward-wise population details and maps within 24 hours to ensure transparency.
As of December 17, 2025, the GHMC has received 3,102 objections to the delimitation process.
