BMW India CEO Warns Against EV GST Hike
BMW India's CEO said that increasing the tax on electric cars (EVs) would be very bad for the industry.
He explained that EV sales have grown a lot, over 200% in 2025, but they still make up only a small part of the car market in India.
The CEO asked the government to keep the current 5% tax on EVs because making it higher could slow down the growth of electric cars.
BMW also plans to launch new models and expand its stores to more cities.
The company has been selling more cars than the rest of the market, thanks to new products and better stores.
BMW India CEO warns that increasing GST on EVs would be 'very detrimental' to the industry.
EV sales surged over 200% in 2025, while overall car sales grew 14.4% to 18,001 units.
BMW plans to launch 10 new models in 2026, including three new electric cars.
The company is expanding its retail network to smaller towns, investing Rs 400 crore in the Retail.next project.
Current EV market share in India is just 4%, compared to over 10% in developed countries and 40% in China.
