New York Subway Retires MetroCard

New York Subway Retires MetroCard

The New York City subway is saying goodbye to the old MetroCard.

Starting in 2026, you won't be able to buy or refill a MetroCard anymore.

Instead, everyone will use a new system called OMNY.

With OMNY, you can just tap your credit card, phone, or a special OMNY card to pay for your ride.

This is like how many other cities around the world do it.

The MetroCard was a big deal when it came out in 1994 because it was a lot easier than using tokens.

But now, it's time for something even better.

Some people are sad to see the MetroCard go, especially older riders who are used to it.

But the new system is supposed to be easier and cheaper in the long run.

It even lets you take unlimited rides after a certain number of trips in a week.

Not everyone is happy about the change, though.

Some people worry about privacy and how the new system collects data.

But for now, the subway is moving forward with OMNY, and the MetroCard will soon be a thing of the past.
