J&K High Court orders release of man from preventive detention

In India, sometimes the police can keep someone in jail even without a trial, to stop them from doing something dangerous.

This is called preventive detention.

A young man in Jammu and Kashmir was kept in jail this way because the police said he helped terrorists.

He said he never did anything wrong.

A court, called the High Court, checked his case.

The judges said the police did not give strong proof, like a written complaint called an FIR.

They also said the reasons for holding him looked copied from police papers.

The judges said holding someone without a trial is very serious, so it must only be done very carefully.

So the court told the authorities to let the man go, unless he was involved in another case.

The government said the man was dangerous, but the court still said his detention was not done fairly.
