Chennai to open free women’s cancer screening centre
Chennai is going to open a new center where women can get checked for breast, cervical, and ovarian cancers for free.
This center will be in Thousand Lights and will have special machines to help doctors find cancer early.
The government is building it because many women in Tamil Nadu get these cancers, and early checks can help them get better.
The center will be open every day except Sunday.
A politician named Dr Ezhilan Naganathan had the idea because he wants women to have easy access to these important health checks.
They will also keep records of all the women who get checked to help with future research on cancer.
Chennai will open a free women’s cancer screening centre in Thousand Lights by February.
The facility will offer free screening for breast, cervical, and ovarian cancers.
It will be operated by the Greater Chennai Corporation's Health Department and open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on all days except Sundays.
The centre will be equipped with a mammogram unit, a Pap smear lab, and an ultrasound facility.
The initiative aims to provide early diagnosis, especially for women from economically weaker backgrounds, and create a data registry for research and long-term cancer prevention strategies.
