Farmers Seek Drought Declaration During Fadnavis’s Washim Visit

Farmers in Washim, Maharashtra, said their crops were suffering because there was not enough rain.

They raised slogans while Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited the district.

The farmers asked the government to officially call Washim drought-hit.

They gave the chief minister a written list of demands.

One demand was compensation of Rs 50,000 for every hectare of affected farmland.

Fadnavis was visiting farms growing soybean, pigeon pea and cotton.

He was also scheduled to visit Amravati.

Earlier, he said Latur and Dharashiv had received only about half their usual rainfall and promised possible help.
