Dara Singh Remission Case Advances Amid Odisha BJP Legacy Push

Dara Singh is in prison for killing missionary Graham Staines and his two young sons in 1999.

He has been in prison for more than 25 years.

A state board is considering whether he should be released early because of his behavior in prison.

The board has not made a final decision and has asked local officials for more information.

The Supreme Court has told Odisha to decide the case soon.

The BJP says the decision must follow the same rules used for other eligible prisoners.

At the same time, the Odisha government is honoring Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati, whose 2008 assassination led to deadly communal violence.

Critics say the two developments may help the BJP appeal to parts of its traditional support base.
