Maharashtra Makes Every Snakebite Case Mandatory to Report

Maharashtra Makes Every Snakebite Case Mandatory to Report

Maharashtra has created a new rule for snakebites.

Doctors, hospitals and medical colleges must report every suspected or confirmed case.

They must report serious cases and deaths immediately.

The rule followed an incident in which three schoolgirls died and three others were hospitalised after a snakebite.

Officials will collect information about where, when and how bites happen.

Hospitals must also record how much anti-snake venom they receive and use.

This information may help officials send supplies to areas with more snakebites.

Health authorities will teach people about prevention, first aid and getting medical help quickly.
