MCOCA Invoked Against Drug Peddlers in Mumbai After Amendment
The Mumbai police are using a tough law called MCOCA against people selling mephedrone, a type of drug.
This is the first time this has happened since the law was changed to include drug dealing.
The police caught some mephedrone and arrested one person, but two others are still being searched for.
The police decided to use MCOCA to make sure the accused face serious consequences and might not be able to get out of jail easily.
This action follows a direction from the Chief Minister to crack down on drug networks.
Mumbai police invoked MCOCA against three individuals involved in mephedrone supply.
This is the first such case in Maharashtra since MCOCA was amended to include drug peddling.
The Anti-Narcotics Cell seized 766 grams of mephedrone in a case on August 7.
Jamir Ahmed Ansari and two others formed a gang to supply narcotics.
The accused face stringent penalties, including difficulty in obtaining bail.
