NCERT to Boost Arts Education in Secondary Schools
The NCERT is making a big change in schools by adding art subjects like theatre, music, and drama to the regular curriculum for students starting in the eighth grade.
This means every student will need to take and pass these classes, just like any other subject.
This decision follows new education rules and aims to give kids a more complete education, mixing regular learning with creative activities.
A new textbook called Kriti will also be used to help teach these new subjects.
The goal is to help students become well-rounded individuals.
NCERT is introducing theatre, music, and drama as regular subjects in grade VIII starting in the 2025-26 session.
This change aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023.
All students will be required to study and pass these arts subjects.
The goal is to provide a more well-rounded education that includes creative and artistic learning.
A new art textbook called Kriti has been released to assist with the transition.
