Bangladesh Sets February 2026 Election Date

Bangladesh Sets February 2026 Election Date

Bangladesh is going to have a big vote called a parliamentary election on February 12, 2026.

The head of the Election Commission, AMM Nasir Uddin, told everyone the exact date on December 11th.

At the same time, there will be a vote on some new rules for the country called the July National Charter 2025.

The current leader of Bangladesh is Muhammad Yunus, who took over after the old leader, Sheikh Hasina, left.

The party that many people think will win the election is the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, led by Khaleda Zia.

But another party, the Awami League, which used to be in charge, can't join the election and says they might cause trouble if they're not allowed to.

There are also other parties like Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizen Party, each with different ideas about how to run the country.

The election will be the first since Sheikh Hasina was forced to leave the country in August 2024.
