Vajpayee’s Warning About Terrorism Before the September 11 Attacks

Vajpayee’s Warning About Terrorism Before the September 11 Attacks

In 2000, India’s prime minister spoke to the US Congress about terrorism.

Atal Behari Vajpayee said countries near India were a major source of terrorist threats.

He warned that religion was being used to support war.

He said the danger had become part of government policy in the region.

Vajpayee told Americans that being far away would not necessarily keep them safe.

He believed the threat would fail eventually.

However, he warned that it could still hurt many people.

His remarks came about a year before the September 11 attacks.
