Trump Says Canada Trade Deal Could Come Fairly Soon
Donald Trump said the United States and Canada might reach a new trade agreement soon.
He said Canada must stop charging tariffs on American farm products.
Tariffs are extra fees placed on goods brought in from another country.
Canada says it also wants an agreement that benefits both countries.
However, Canada does not want to negotiate because of threats or sudden demands.
Earlier talks ended after Canada withdrew its negotiating team.
The United States then placed large tariffs on some Canadian goods.
Canada responded with tariffs of its own.
The two countries are still discussing whether they can find a fair solution.
Donald Trump said Canada wants a trade deal with the United States and one could be reached fairly soon.
Trump demanded that Canada remove tariffs affecting American agricultural products and treat U.S. farmers better.
Formal Canada-U.S. trade talks collapsed on August 21, 2026, after Mark Carney recalled Canada’s delegation.
The United States later imposed 50 percent tariffs on about CA$28 billion in Canadian imports, prompting Canadian retaliation.
