Bombay HC Sides with Marico in 'Parachute' Trademark Dispute
Imagine two companies selling similar coconut oil products.
One company, Marico, has been selling its 'Parachute' brand for a long time.
Another company, Zee Hygiene, started selling a similar product, but its packaging looked very similar to Marico's.
Marico sued Zee Hygiene, saying they were copying their brand.
The court agreed, saying the packaging was too similar and could confuse customers.
The court told Zee Hygiene to stop using the similar packaging.
But, Zee Hygiene was given some extra time before they had to make the change.
Bombay High Court granted interim relief to Marico in a trademark dispute.
Zee Hygiene was restrained from using packaging similar to Marico's 'Parachute' products.
The court found Zee Hygiene's packaging deceptively similar to Marico's trademarks.
Marico has held registrations for 'Parachute' marks and logos since 1948.
Zee Hygiene was given a four-week stay on the order following a request by the defendant.
