Delhi Congress demands Rs 25 crore per acre farmland compensation
Some leaders in Delhi, from a group called the Congress party, want the government to pay farmers a lot more money when it takes their land for projects.
They say farmers should get at least Rs 25 crore for every acre of land the government takes.
That is a very large amount of money.
They also want farmers to get another piece of land instead of the one taken.
And they want one person from each farmer's family to get a government job within six months.
The leader of the Delhi Congress, Devender Yadav, asked the Lieutenant Governor, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, to make this happen.
Yadav said farmers find it hard to earn a living after losing their land.
He said the current payments are based on old rates even though land prices have gone up.
The government has not yet said anything about this demand.
Delhi Congress demanded a minimum compensation of Rs 25 crore per acre for farmers whose land is acquired by the government.
The party sought an upward revision of the circle rate for agricultural land to achieve the higher compensation.
It also demanded allotment of an alternative plot to farmers whose land has been acquired or is to be acquired.
A government job for one member of each affected family within six months, based on qualifications, was also demanded.
Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav urged Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu to issue the notification, and the state government made no immediate statement.
