Canada, Ontario Premier Challenge Trump in Escalating Tariff War

Canada, Ontario Premier Challenge Trump in Escalating Tariff War

The United States and Canada are arguing about taxes placed on goods crossing their border.

The United States put 50% tariffs on many Canadian imports worth about $20 billion.

Canada responded by announcing tariffs on some goods from the United States.

These tariffs could make products more expensive and disrupt businesses and supply chains.

Doug Ford, Ontario’s premier, said Donald Trump was treating Canada unfairly.

Trump and Ford also exchanged insults in public.

Canada sends electricity to more than 20 US states.

Ford said Canada is not planning to stop those electricity exports for now.

Both sides have said they want better trade arrangements, but talks have broken down.
