Six Witnesses Repeatedly Named in MP FIRs
In a district in Madhya Pradesh, India, the same six people were named as witnesses in many police reports, called FIRs.
This happened a lot during the time a man named Jagdish Singh Thakur was in charge of two police stations.
A person who asks for information through a law called RTI found this out and complained.
Some of the people whose names were used said they didn't know about it.
The police are now checking if any rules were broken.
The person in charge of the police in that area has removed Thakur from his job while they look into the problem.
Six individuals were repeatedly named as witnesses in over 150 FIRs in Madhya Pradesh's Mauganj district.
The issue was flagged by an RTI activist who alleged misuse of police witnesses during Jagdish Singh Thakur's tenure.
Data from the CCTNS platform showed these witnesses were listed across different villages and at overlapping times.
Some witnesses denied involvement, claiming their names were used without their knowledge.
The Mauganj superintendent of police has removed Thakur as in-charge of Naigadhi police station pending an investigation.
