Karnataka Considers Revising BPL Income Limits
The Karnataka government is thinking about changing the rules for who can get Below Poverty Line (BPL) cards.
Right now, the central government says families can't earn more than ₹1.20 lakh a year to get a BPL card.
But some daily workers earn more than that, so the government wants to make sure the rules are fair.
They found a lot of people who might not really need BPL cards.
The government is being careful not to take away any cards right now, but they might change the rules later.
If someone's card was taken away because a family member got a job, they can ask to get it back if that person no longer lives with them.
Karnataka government is considering revising the income criteria for BPL cards.
Central government's BPL income ceiling is ₹1.20 lakh per annum, but daily wage workers earn up to ₹1.80 lakh annually.
7,75,206 'suspicious' ration card beneficiaries identified in Karnataka.
Current BPL cardholders: 4.53 lakh; APL cardholders: 1.25 lakh.
Government instructed not to cancel existing BPL cards temporarily.
