Banerjee Appeals Supreme Court Over Denied Overseas Eye Treatment
Abhishek Banerjee is a member of the Trinamool Congress party in India.
He needs special eye treatment that he thinks can only be done abroad.
The Calcutta High Court said he could not travel overseas because an investigation is happening and that good eye doctors are in Kolkata.
He asked the Supreme Court to let him go abroad for treatment.
The Supreme Court will decide on August 3 whether to allow him to travel or keep the High Court’s rule.
Abhishek Banerjee, TMC MP, filed a petition in the Supreme Court after the Calcutta High Court denied his request to travel abroad for eye treatment.
The High Court had granted Banerjee interim protection until October 6 and directed him to cooperate with the investigation and not travel abroad without permission.
The court said Kolkata has adequate eye care facilities and ordered Banerjee to appear before the head of ophthalmology at SSKM Hospital for assessment.
Banerjee claims he has complied with Enforcement Directorate investigations, even providing a voice sample, yet remains denied overseas travel.
The Supreme Court is expected to hear the case on August 3, deciding whether to allow the travel or uphold the High Court’s condition.
