Bangladesh dengue deaths rise, toll crosses 330 in 2025
In Bangladesh, five more people have recently died from dengue, a disease spread by mosquitoes.
This brings the total number of deaths this year to 336.
Many new cases have also been reported, with over 84,000 people getting sick.
Doctors say that this year has seen more dengue cases than last year, but fewer people have died in proportion to those infected.
They emphasize that people need to protect themselves from mosquito bites and seek medical help early if they think they have dengue.
Sometimes, people who get very sick with dengue die soon after arriving at the hospital, which suggests that getting to the doctor quickly is very important.
Dengue can be treated at home if caught early, but there's no special medicine for it.
The best way to stop dengue is to control the mosquito population.
Five individuals died of dengue in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours, raising the 2025 death toll to 336.
1,139 new dengue patients were hospitalized in the same period, bringing the total cases for 2025 to 84,997.
The recent deaths occurred in Dhaka North City Corporation, Dhaka South City Corporation, and Mymensingh Division.
The Director General of Health Services stated that while 2025 has seen more dengue infections than the previous year, the death rate relative to infections is lower.
Health officials highlighted the importance of mosquito control, personal protective measures, early diagnosis, and prompt medical care in reducing dengue fatalities.
