NGT Issues Notice Over Kabir Yatra in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has asked the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) and others to explain why they allowed a religious event called Kabir Yatra to take place in a protected area of the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve.
A wildlife activist, Ajay Shankar Dubey, complained that this event is not allowed because it can harm the wildlife and the environment.
The activist's lawyer asked the NGT to cancel the permission for the event and to hold the officials responsible for giving this permission accountable.
The NGT is looking into this matter to ensure that the rules protecting the tiger reserve are followed.
NGT issued notice to PCCF (Wildlife) and others over permission for Kabir Yatra in Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve core area.
Wildlife activist Ajay Shankar Dubey filed a petition against the event, citing violation of environmental laws and Supreme Court directives.
Pilgrims entered the core area on Thursday for the Kabir Yatra, which the applicant claims is a serious violation.
Advocate Harshvardhan Tiwari requested the NGT to revoke the permission and hold officials accountable for the decision.
The advocate argued that the event would adversely affect wildlife and hinder conservation objectives.
