August Auto Sales Decline Due to GST Expectations
Car sales in India went down in August.
This happened because people thought the government might lower taxes (GST) on cars soon.
Because of this, many potential buyers waited before buying a car.
Four major car companies, including Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, M&M and Tata Motors, shipped fewer cars to their dealerships.
Analysts said that dealers didn't want to have too many cars on hand before tax changes were made.
This created a wait-and-see environment in the market.
Top car manufacturers experienced sales drops in August.
Overall sales decline attributed to anticipated GST rate cuts.
Maruti Suzuki's dispatches declined by 8% year-over-year.
Hyundai's dispatches decreased by 11% year-over-year.
M&M's utility vehicle sales decreased by 9%.
