US Treasury: Tariffs Refund Possible If Supreme Court Rules Against Trump
The US Treasury might have to give money back if the Supreme Court says President Trump's tariffs were wrong.
The Treasury Secretary says this would be bad for the government's money.
The court is looking at whether Trump had the right to make these tariffs.
A lower court already said he didn't.
The tariffs have been in place since August and include 50% tariffs on countries like Brazil and India.
If the Supreme Court agrees with the lower court, the government would have to give back some of the tariff money.
The US Treasury Secretary stated refunds would be required if the Supreme Court strikes down Trump's tariffs.
The case concerns 'reciprocal tariffs' imposed by Trump on trading partners.
A federal appeals court previously ruled Trump's tariffs exceeded presidential authority.
The Treasury Secretary expressed confidence in a government victory in the Supreme Court.
Tariffs on Brazil and India are as high as 50%.
