Manipuri Dance Workshop Enthralls Students in Kolkata
Students at IEM Public School in Kolkata had a special workshop where they learned about Manipuri dance from a professional dancer named Kankana Singh.
She taught them how to move gracefully like a snake and use their wrists to tell stories.
The students were surprised to learn that Manipuri dance isn't just about pretty movements but also includes martial arts with swords and drums.
Kankana showed them how to play the pung, a drum worn around the neck, and even performed some exciting sword dances.
The students loved learning about different dance styles and agreed that performing arts can bring joy and emotion that technology can't replace.
Students at IEM Public School attended a Manipuri dance workshop organized by SPIC MACAY.
Dancer Kankana Singh demonstrated the unique curves and snake-like movements of Manipuri dance.
The workshop included swordplay and drumming, showcasing the martial arts aspect of Manipuri dance.
Kankana emphasized gender inclusivity in dance, encouraging both boys and girls to participate.
Students were familiar with classical dance forms and the ancient treatise Natya Shastra.
