Indian Equities Fall as Crude Oil Prices Surge
Indian stock markets like Sensex and Nifty have been falling for four days in a row.
This is because the price of oil, called Brent crude, has gone up a lot.
The reason for the oil price increase is some problems in West Asia.
When oil prices go up, it makes people worried about two things: first, that things might cost more (inflation), and second, that companies might not make as much money (corporate margins).
Because of these worries, people who invest money (FIIs) have been selling their shares, which makes the stock markets fall even more.
Some companies like Adani Ports and Bajaj Finance have seen big drops, while others like Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Consultancy Services have done a bit better.
Indian equity markets Sensex and Nifty extended losses for the fourth straight session.
Brent crude oil prices surged to $98.32 per barrel due to escalating tensions in West Asia.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold equities worth Rs 819.20 crore.
Concerns over inflation risks and corporate margins intensified as crude oil prices approached $100 per barrel.
Major laggards included Adani Ports, Bajaj Finance, and Tata Steel, while winners included Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Consultancy Services.
