India's Russia Oil Imports Drop
India's imports of crude oil from Russia are expected to drop a lot in December 2025.
This is because the US put sanctions on big Russian oil companies, and Indian refiners had already bought a lot in November.
The drop is the lowest in three years, but it's not permanent.
Experts think the imports will go back up in January 2026 as new traders and ways to get the oil are found.
Even though direct purchases are down, the demand for Russian oil in India is still there because it's cheap and works well with their refineries.
Some oil tankers are still heading to Asia without a final destination, and India might still be the end buyer.
India's crude oil imports from Russia expected to decline by 35-40% in December 2025.
Imports to drop to around 1.2 million barrels per day (mb/d) in December, down from 1.84 mb/d in November 2025.
US sanctions on Russian oil giants Rosneft and Lukoil took effect on November 21, 2025.
Major Indian refiners like Reliance Industries and New Mangalore Refinery significantly scaled back Russian crude purchases in December.
Experts expect Russian crude imports to recover gradually from January 2026 as new intermediaries and supply chains re-establish.
