Karnataka Withholds 23 Lakh Pensions Amid Eligibility Verification

Karnataka checked its pension records to find people who may not qualify for benefits.

Officials said up to 23 lakh pensions were stopped during this review.

Some flagged recipients were taxpayers, government workers or people who were too young.

People whose pensions were stopped can seek restoration by providing valid documents.

They need to prove their age, income and place of residence.

The government has not said exactly when the payments will restart.

Karnataka also increased the income limit for qualifying for some pensions.

The limit rose from ₹32,000 to ₹1.2 lakh a year.

The deputy chief minister also said the state plans to replace the New Pension Scheme with the Old Pension Scheme.
