India Tightens AI Deepfake Rules, Conducts 6,650 Cyber Workshops
India's government is working to stop fake videos and audio made by computers, called deepfakes.
They changed the law so that any fake content must have a clear label and traceable information.
The government also started 13 projects to find and stop deepfakes, like a system called Saakshya that checks videos from two Indian universities.
They held 6,650 workshops to teach people about online safety, and more than 1.1 million people attended.
The workshops were for students, teachers, police, and regular citizens.
The IndiaAI Mission has a part called Safe & Trusted AI that makes rules for using AI safely.
CERT‑In, a cyber security agency, gives tips and posters about AI dangers.
All these steps aim to protect people from being tricked by fake videos or audio.
IT Rules 2021 amended to regulate synthetic content, mandating labeling and traceable metadata.
13 responsible AI projects approved, including Saakshya, AI Vishleshak, and IIT Kharagpur real‑time voice detection.
6,650 cyber security workshops conducted, reaching more than 1.137 million participants.
Safe & Trusted AI pillar of IndiaAI Mission promotes responsible AI development through indigenous governance frameworks.
CERT‑In issues guidelines and awareness materials on AI threats, deepfakes, and cyber hygiene.
