Water Samples in Janakpuri Found Contaminated with Bacteria
Imagine your tap water has tiny bugs in it.
In Janakpuri, India, some tap water samples were found to have these bugs, called E. coli and total coliform, which shouldn't be there in clean drinking water.
This happened because of a problem with the pipes, possibly letting sewage mix with the water.
The people living there complained to a court.
The court, along with an environment protection agency, tested the water.
They found that some water samples were contaminated.
The court is now making sure the water gets tested again to see if the problem has been fixed, and if the water is safe to drink.
Six out of 20 water samples from Janakpuri's A1 block tested positive for total coliform and E. coli.
The contamination was discovered by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) ordered the water testing in response to complaints from residents.
The RWA claimed the DJB was supplying sewage-mixed drinking water due to pipeline issues.
The Tribunal criticized the DJB for not taking expeditious action.
