Nagaland Launches Digitisation of Birth, Death Certificates
The Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio, started a new project to turn old paper birth and death certificates into digital ones.
This will make it easier for people to get these important documents and help the government make better decisions.
The project also includes a new online system for registering births and deaths, which started in April 2022.
The government is asking everyone to use this online system to make sure all records are accurate and easy to find.
Soon, paper certificates will no longer be issued, and everything will be done online.
This will help keep all the records safe and up-to-date for the future.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio launched the digitisation of old manual birth and death certificates on January 31, 2024.
The initiative aims to streamline service delivery, improve data management, and enhance citizens’ access to essential documents.
Online registration of births and deaths has been in place since April 2022, in compliance with the Office of the Registrar General of India (ORGI).
The department will soon discontinue the issuance of manual certificates, transitioning to 100% online registration.
The public is encouraged to use the ORGI portal to build a comprehensive and secure database of vital records.
