Chingrighata Traffic Trial Continues for Metro Work
In Kolkata, a new road near Chingrighata is being tested to see if it can handle traffic when part of the main road (EM Bypass) is closed for Metro construction.
The trial started on January 21 and will last a few more weeks.
The new road is about 500 meters long and is meant to help vehicles going towards Ultadanga when the main road is blocked.
The police are checking how well the new road works, especially for big trucks.
The Metro construction is important for the new Orange Line, which will connect New Garia to Sector V. The high court has ordered that the Metro work must be finished by February 15.
Once the Metro work is done, the new road will be removed.
There are also concerns about the environment because the road goes through a protected wetland area.
A 500-meter two-lane road in Chingrighata is undergoing a traffic trial to divert vehicles during Metro construction on EM Bypass.
The trial, started on January 21, will last a few more weeks to assess traffic flow and load-bearing capacity.
The new road is intended to ease congestion when a segment of EM Bypass is blocked for Metro work.
The high court has ordered that the Metro work must be completed by February 15.
The road will be dismantled once the viaduct gap is bridged, as it passes through the East Kolkata Wetlands, a protected area.
