Maharashtra Crop Insurance Scam: FIR Filed Against CSC Operators
Some people cheated the crop insurance program by making fake applications.
They used fake papers and stole information to get money they weren't supposed to.
They were able to do this because of a cheap insurance plan that was available at one point.
Now, the government is cracking down and punishing those who cheated the system.
The government is also changing the rules to prevent this from happening again, such as making new ID and inspections required for future claims.
An FIR has been filed against 40 CSC operators in Nanded district for allegedly submitting 4,453 bogus crop insurance applications.
The applications, submitted under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), used fake documents and misused farmer details without consent.
The fraudulent entries were detected during document verification by United India Insurance Company in February 2025.
The scam is linked to the now-scrapped ₹1 crop insurance scheme introduced in 2023, which saw a surge in bogus applications.
The government has introduced strict penalties, including criminal prosecution and bans, for fraudulent claims.
