Punjab Opposition Accuses AAP of Election Interference
In Punjab, the opposition parties like Congress, BJP, and SAD have accused the ruling AAP of trying to stop their candidates from filing papers for local elections.
They say AAP workers and police snatched papers and blocked candidates.
The AAP and police deny these claims, calling them baseless.
The opposition has also shared an audio clip, which they say shows police being told to stop opposition candidates.
The state election commission is now investigating the matter.
The elections are scheduled for December 14, with counting on December 17.
SAD leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal appealed to the Election Commission of India to suspend Patiala SSP and deploy paramilitary forces.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court is also involved in the matter, with SAD seeking an independent investigation.
Opposition parties accuse AAP of preventing their candidates from filing nomination papers for Punjab zila parishad and panchayat samiti elections.
Allegations include nomination papers being torn or snatched, and candidates being blocked from reaching nomination centers.
An audio clip, purportedly of Patiala SSP directing subordinates to block opposition candidates, was shared by SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal.
AAP and Patiala Police deny the allegations, calling the audio clip a fake AI-generated video.
State Election Commissioner has handed over the investigation to ADGP (Law and Order) SPS Parmar, and SAD has moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court for an independent investigation.
