Bihar Unrecognised Parties Fail on 2023-24 Financial Disclosures
Imagine there are many small political teams in Bihar that are not yet officially big parties.
These small teams have to tell everyone how they get their money and how they spend it each year.
But, a new report says that more than half of these teams did not share their money information for last year.
This means we don't know where their money came from or where it went.
Only a few teams did share their information, and we can see they had quite a bit of money.
Some teams were even removed from the list of parties because they didn't follow the rules.
It’s important for all political groups, big or small, to be open about their finances so we can trust them.
59.27% of registered unrecognised political parties associated with Bihar failed to disclose their 2023-24 finances.
The ADR report reviewed 275 such parties, finding 163 non-compliant.
Only 24.36% of parties made both audit and contribution reports public, collectively reporting Rs 85.56 crore income.
The Election Commission recently de-listed 32 parties for issues including inactivity and non-compliance.
Some parties that did not contest elections had significant incomes, raising questions about funding sources.
