Centre Releases Rs 223 Crore to Boost Rural Local Bodies in Assam
The central government has sent over 223 crore rupees to help local governments in rural areas of Assam.
This money is given in two parts.
One part is called 'untied grants,' which the local governments can use for anything the community needs, except for paying salaries.
The other part is for specific important tasks, like making sure toilets work well, managing trash, and providing clean drinking water.
This helps the local governments take care of their villages and towns better.
The government is also working on digital tools to make these local governments work more efficiently and transparently.
The Centre has released over Rs 223 crore to Assam's rural local bodies under the 15th Finance Commission grants for FY 2025–26.
This includes the second instalment of untied grants (Rs 219.24 crore) for FY 2024-25.
An additional Rs 4.698 crore from a withheld portion of the first instalment has also been released.
The funds are allocated to 27 District Panchayats, 182 Block Panchayats, and 2,192 Gram Panchayats across Assam.
Untied grants support location-specific needs (excluding salaries), while tied grants fund basic services like sanitation and drinking water.
